TOP 5 TIPS FOR DRESSING THE PART FOR YOUR NEXT INTERVIEW!
WHAT TO WEAR to an interview...
Oh we are listening…I get asked for advice on this one at least once a day – and it is a tricky one!
Companies are looking for someone that is a “fit”- and while your skills, experience and capability will ultimately earn you that offer, how you present yourself is definitely part of the decision-making process.
Here are the top five things to consider when getting ready for an interview:
1. Review the company’s website profile bios (Sometimes titled “Meet the Team” or “About Us” page)- what is everyone wearing in those pics? (Another option is to review their social media to get a sense of the culture)
2. Think about what industry it is in- if it is in fashion, cosmetics, or design- you can appeal to the creative nature of the business- as not to appear unoriginal, maybe rock that statement necklace or bold tie. If it is a more relaxed start up- think about dressing business casual. On the other hand, if it is an interview with a professional services firm, more traditional professional attire is typically appropriate.
3. Never wear anything too tight, too short, too low cut or too revealing.
4. It is typically safer not to wear perfume or cologne… it is subjective and it might not be everyone’s cup of tea- play it safe and appeal to the masses… leave the boss sauce for date night.
5. Whatever you choose to wear, make sure it isn’t wrinkled or stained and that it fits properly.
Bonus points- don’t forget to think about hair, make up, accessories, + shaving -how you choose to show up shows a lot about your level of interest and professionalism. BURKE UP- we are standing by to help advise. ‘Cus If we show up, we gon' show out..
Remember to BE YOU…wear something you feel good about yourself in- if you feel good in it, you will be more confident and self-assured!
